End of Summer – Chairman’s Message

end of summer

As another season comes to a close I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has helped in their own way this summer.  Special thanks must go to our invaluable volunteers, the ground-staff, coaches, the ground maintenance team, the ladies in the tea-hut and Committee members.  Along with our loyal spectators/members, Scorers, Captains, Players and bar staff, everybody has played their part in helping the club move forward.

On the field, whilst we have had issues naming the same team two games running I think that we have made strides forward in the right direction from last year finishing 20th.  We have certainly been more competitive in most games.  With the league splitting into 2 as of the 2019 season, we will be playing our cricket in Division 1 (or whatever the league decide to call it).  The majority of our wins/best performances have come against the sides that will join us in that league next year.  We should not look at being in the second tier as a negative, that is our level as a club at the current time, the exciting challenge is to look to build a squad that can take us into the top tier within the next few years.
It was disappointing for all concerned when professional Keegan Petersen was called home earlier by his Franchise team, this was unavoidable and caused issues for us as a club to find replacements but that should not detract from the positive impact that Keegan had around the club both on and off the field this year.
The cricket may have finished but club life still continues throughout the winter and we would welcome members to stay actively involved throughout this period.  We will advertise all events via social media as always but we have the following coming up where everybody can help, such as:
  • Ground Force Day – Variety of jobs where we basically complete the ground ready for winter. Date TBC
  • Club Bonfire – Can you assist in any way?  A list will be going up in the clubhouse asking for volunteers
  • Fundraising Events – Keep your eyes posted we will be arranging a few events
Other than the above, the club is open every weekend, please call in at anytime to have a drink or watch a game of football, everybody is welcome.
Many Thanks
Vinny Hanson
